Does anyone look good in these hats? James Bond wouldn't wear one, but they're functional and I have my Nav Canada ball cap for evening wear.
I took the last of my training walks yesterday (25K) with my heavy pack. That makes 2 walks of 15K and one of 20K with a light pack, plus 1 walk each of 15, 20, and 25K with the pack that I will be carrying on the Camino. All of that plus some occasional weight lifting at the Y and some infrequent 5K runs in the neighbourhood have me theoretically ready to go. When I finished my walk yesterday I had a vodka martini (shaken not stirred) before climbing into the bath. All in the interests of cleaning out the fridge of leftover olives.
My flat ground walking pace averages about 5K per hour, which is good to know for navigation because I won't have a GPS with me. My uphill pace should be about 4K per hour, although when I'm down on my knees at the top of the Pyrenees, perhaps less. To paraphrase Erwin Rommel, the first leg of the Camino next Wednesday will be my Longest Day.
I did figure out how to get some additional weight off. On Friday I'm going to my barber of 30 years and getting my first brush cut in over half a century.
Looking awesome Dad! Pull your socks up a little higher :) Travel safe. Love you.

ReplyDeleteWay to go, John! I look forward to reading about your travels.
ReplyDeleteSaw the movie version of Camino Trail. It was a good experience for all. A long walk though. Good for the soul.
